Barbara Ellen Gourley, 81 of Carthage passed away on December 29th, 2015 @ 12:29 pm at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side.
She was born July 9th, 1934 in Carthage, MO. Barbara was the daughter of Elmer and Guyline Slack Frey, who preceded her in death.
Barbara loved her family and spent as much time with them as she could. She had a beautiful garden with lots of flowers especially roses. She loved her pets, Burney was her favorite. She enjoyed crocheting and facebook.
Barbara married Jesse Lee Gourley Sr on June 25th, 1950 in Bentonville, AR. They were married 45 years and from this union were five children. Kathy & William Smith of Carthage, MO, Jesse Jr & Gloria Gourley of Carthage, MO, Jimmy & Deb Gourley of Miller, MO, Pam & Jody Wolsey Sr of Carthage, MO and Jerry & Debbie Kay Gourley of Carthage, MO.
Barbara had nine Grandchildren – Jennifer Bates, Misty Eighmy and husband Mark, Stephanie Smith, Jesse Gourley III and wife Callie, Jody Wolsey Jr and wife Kati, Stacey Weaver and husband Michael, Heather Gourley and Amber Teel and husband Chandler. Six Great Grandchildren – Adrianna Bates, Samantha Eighmy, Dausen Gourley, Andrew Eighmy, Hunter Gourley and Sawyer Teel.
She is survived by 2 brothers Elmer and wife Theresa Frey of Joplin, MO and Roger and wife Janet Frey of San Felipe, TX and sister in law Joan Stocker of Carthage, MO and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Sr, her son Jesse Jr and her sister Phyllis Cundiff.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 at 10 am at the Carthage Nazarene Church; Rev Jeff Martin will be conducting the service.
Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Barbara Gourley to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
