Helen Hartman

Helen I. Hartman, 96, of Carthage, MO departed this life on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage, MO surrounded by her loving family.

Helen entered this life on April 6, 1919 in Webb City, MO to the union of the late James Edward and Zeda (Campbell) Hensley. As a child her father passed, and she was raised by her stepfather, Leon Hodkins who she loved as a father. On January 22, 1938 she was united in marriage to William H. Hartman and together they shared sixty three years until his passing on December 6, 2001. For many years she owned and operated her antique business. She enjoyed reading cook books, collecting antiques and sewing. For several years she belonged to the PTA, rural extension club, and also served as a 4-H leader. She was a member of Dudman Springs Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and step father, her husband; one son, Leon William Hartman; one grandson, Jerald Hartman; two brothers, Lloyd Hensley and Clifford Hensley; five sisters, Delores Evans, Betty Fasken, Wanda Collins, Mary Ayres and JoAnn Ellet.

Helen is survived by her children, Judy Spurgeon of Carthage and Jerry Hartman and wife Anne, also of Carthage, MO; grandchildren, Jerlyn Jones, Misty Spradling, Kristi Benefield, and Brandee Waters; elven grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Fullerton Cemetery, Carthage, MO with Pastor Wayne Rose officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those honoring her life as pallbearers are Sam Jones, Jacob Jones, Doug Benefield, Dale Lambeth, Johnnie Hensley and Kyle Hartman.
