Ardis Gloe Shelton, 92, Carthage, Missouri, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on December 1,2015. Ardis had been a resident of St. Luke’s Nursing Home, Carthage, Missouri for the past two months. Ardis is survived by a loving family and a host of friends.
Ardis was born February 1, 1923, in Little River, Kansas. Ardis was the daughter of Roy Alvin Zent and Nellie Bly Zent. Ardis graduated from Lockwood High School in 1941. She married Howard Glen Shelton on December 18, 1943, in Girard, Kansas. He survives. Glen and Ardis shared nearly 72 years of marriage together.
Ardis was employed several years for Big Smith in Carthage. Ardis retired from Schrieber Cheese Company in 1996, after working for the company for 33 years.
Ardis accepted Christ on April 25, 1945, and was a member of the Avilla Methodist Church, Avilla Missouri.
In addition, Ardis is survived by three children. Howard Shelton and wife Marsha, Wichita, Kansas, Glenda Irwin and husband Jim, Carthage, Missouri, and Darrel Shelton and wife Patty, Carthage, Missouri. She is also survived by a sister, June Schultz, Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Ardis was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren. Terry Shelton and wife Sonia, Memphis, Tennessee, Timmy Shelton, Wichita, Kansas, Candi Bright and husband Ed, Webb City, Missouri, and Amber Kinder and husband James of Carthage, Missouri. Ardis was equally proud of her 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Ardis was proceeded in death by a grandson, Wayne Shelton, Miller, Missouri, and six brothers, and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 4, 2015 at Avilla Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, MO.. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
