Marvin Barton

Mr. Marvin Eugene Barton, 92, of Tiff City, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at his residence.

Marvin entered this life on July 4, 1926, in Arnett, Oklahoma, son of the late Charles Walter and Hannah (Schlotthauer) Barton. He moved with his family to Tiff City, Missouri, in 1936. Marvin enlisted and served his country faithfully in the United States Army during WW-II. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Tiff City and on July 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Zelma Goodnight and to this union four daughters and two sons were born. From 1949 to 1966 he was employed by Shaver Brothers General Store in Tiff City. He worked for Blackburn Sales in Joplin prior to opening Marvin’s Saw Shop in Tiff in 1977, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed researching family genealogy and small engine repair. Marvin was a charter member of Buffalo Creek Baptist Church in Tiff City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Doris Evans; and two brothers, Bill and Sam Barton.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Zelma Barton of the home; two sons, John Barton and wife, Shelly, of Tiff City and Rick Barton and wife, Billie, of Bernice, Oklahoma; three daughters, Helen Humphrey and husband, Mo, of Tiff City, Shirley Stogsdill of Grove, Oklahoma and Nancy Barton of Southwest City, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; four sisters, Geneva Hodson of Anderson, Ruth Buckner of Rogers, Arkansas, Midge Hatfield of Anderson and Thelma Robbins and husband, Wesley, also of Anderson; a son in-law, Jerry Evans of Tiff City; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Barton are 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018, at the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church in Tiff City with Pastors Jared Proctor and Josh Manning officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery in Anderson. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jake Stogsdill, Michael Barton, Wesley Barton, Charles Barton, Christopher Barton, Shane Evans and Kane Wyatt with Johnny Martin and Robert Hatfield serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
