Harriett Jane Smith of Kansas City, MO, age 96, was born Harriett Jane McCart on December 21, 1923 in Woodbine, IA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She became a born again Christian in 1936. Harriett graduated from Woodbine, IA High School in 1942 and attended Central Bible College in Springfield, MO the following year.

She met her husband Ervin at a fellowship meeting in Dennison, IA and they married at Woodbine Assembly of God Church on June 6, 1943. Harriett and Ervin began their life together as pastors with the Assemblies of God. After several years of faithfully serving God in this ministry they started on a new path of ministry due to her poor health at the time. Harriett and Ervin worked together for 25 years in the health care field and she filled any capacity she could to help.

Various positions during these years included cook, dietary director, nurse aid and housekeeping supervisor. Harriett and Ervin retired and moved to Stockton, MO in May, 1983. The couple attended Stockton Assembly of God church and served there in various capacities for over 25 years. After Ervin’s death in 2011, Harriett moved to Summit View Terrace Assisted Living in Kansas City, MO to be near family on August 10, 2013.

Harriett loved visits by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had a sparkle in her eye when anyone showed up to see her. She enjoyed listening to gospel hymns and Hawaiian music. Bingo was one of her favorite pastimes and she loved getting quarters whenever she won a game. Her favorite vacation spot was Colorado.

At the age of 96 years, 6 months and 20 days Harriett passed into the arms of Jesus on July 11, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ervin; mother Lula; brothers Jimmy, Carroll (Cal) and Terrance; and sisters Maxine and Jean.

She is survived by her 5 children; Bob Smith of Newton, IA; Sheryl (Dave) Bryson of Kansas City, MO; Dennis (Kaylene) Smith of Independence, MO; Rob Dean (Josie) Smith of Webb City, MO; Connie Brandell of Seymour, MO and 16 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers we would like memorial donations to go in Harriett's name to American Heart Association.
