(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)Kenneth “Butch” Garland Smith, 79, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
Kenneth entered life on October 28, 1941 in Sarcoxie, Missouri, to the union of the late Kenneth and Eleen (Wyatt) Smith. He attended Sarcoxie High School and Joplin Junior College (now MSSU). Kenneth “Butch” spent most of his life in Southwest Missouri along with some time in Colorado.
In April 1964 he was united with Frances Kaye Smith for twenty five years and had three children together Angela, Kevin and Dustin Smith. Kenneth was owner of Smith’s IGA from 1976 to 1981 and then took over at Center Creek Country Club in 1981 until 2003.
He enjoyed golfing, traveling, sports trivia and being with family. Butch still holds the golf course scoring record at Center Creek Country Club and scored two hole-in-one’s during his golf career.
Kenneth is preceded in death by son, Kevin Smith; parents, Kenneth Edgar and Frances Eleen Smith; sister, Barbara Williams; and nephew, David Williams.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Angela Smith, Dustin Smith, Tawnya (daughter-in-law); two grandchildren Lillian Jones, (Connor Jones) and Chyna Smith; one great- grandchild, Henry Jones; sister, Donna Henry; brother-in-law, Nelson Williams; nieces, Skyla Fiorentino, and Kristi Williams; and nephew, Michael Williams.
The family has chosen to delay the memorial service until next Spring due to Covid19. Details will be provided on the Housh-Goodwin website and announced by newspaper prior to date of the service.
The family has requested memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to Union Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
