(From Clark Funeral Home)Mary Jo Marble was born January 28, 1929 in Goodman, Missouri the daughter of Bert and Margaret Cowan. She entered into rest on December 3, 2020 at the age of 91.
Mary Jo was a lifelong area resident and attended twelve years in Goodman, graduating in 1947. Following high school graduation, she attended Southwest Baptist Junior College, graduating in 1951 and later graduated from PSU with a specialist degree in education in 1984.
She began her teaching career in 1947, teaching for seventeen years in a one room schoolhouse in the Banner and Burch Communities, and then teaching second grade at Seneca Elementary, retiring after twenty one years in 1987.
She later obtained her real estate license and sold real estate for thirteen years. Mary Jo was a member of the Eastern Star since 1947; a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority; and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Neosho.
She married Lester Lee Marble on September 22, 1951 in Pineville and together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Neosho. Lester preceded her in death in October, 2000 after 49 years of marriage.
She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Smith of Carthage; one granddaughter, Robin (Sam) Hatfield of Neosho; one grandson, Chris (Amanda) Smith of Springfield and a great grandson, Chrisander Smith.
Funeral services for Mary Jo will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, Pastor Buddy Funk and Dale Hampton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, south of Neosho. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Monday evening from 5 to 6 pm at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or DAV, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
