Virginia Akehurst

Virginia I. Davison Akehurst, Granby, entered into rest on January 11, 2022 at Granby House, Granby, Missouri at the age of 90. Virginia was born on March 22, 1931 in Jasper, Arkansas to Lee Roy and Charlotte (Amberg) Davison. 

Virginia moved to Granby as a child and graduated in May of 1948 from Granby High School. 









 
Virginia and Grover F. Akehurst were married on April 17, 1949 and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage; Grover preceded her in death on April 25, 2020. She was a member of the Granby First Church of God. She was a lifelong resident of Granby and was always involved with the community and her children’s school. She was a homemaker, day care provider and a Newton County election worker for over 60 years. 

She also had worked at Boon’s CafĂ© and Charley’s Restaurant. She was an excellent cook and her pies and cinnamon rolls, which had been known to sell at fund raisers for $ 75.00 each or more and her salsa was the best. After retirement, she and Grover enjoyed life at Treasure Lake Resort in Branson, Missouri, traveling, working in her garden, flower beds and she loved the St. Louis Cardinals. 

Virginia is survived by three children, David and Leslie Akehurst, Olathe, Kansas; Sharon Woodruff, Granby, Missouri and Steven and Donna Akehurst, Carthage, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Heather and Aaron Kixmueller, Joshua and Annie Akehurst, Jacob and Cindy Akehurst, Christina Woodruff, Jennifer and Shawn Talbert, Kimberly and Mikey Slates and Caleb Elder; ten great grandchildren, Brendan and Marissa Akehurst, Mason and Kendall Akehurst, Kayla, Kendra and Olivia Talbert, Maycy and Kaydyn Slates and Johnathon Elder. 

She is also survived by one brother, Gene Davison, Neosho, Missouri and three sisters, Agnes Davis, Ada, Oklahoma, Wilma Madewell, Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Janette Burgess of Neosho, Missouri. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby, Missouri, Pastor Mark Turner will officiate. Interment will follow in the Granby Memorial Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Akehurst, Jacob Akehurst, Caleb Elder, Danny Woodcock, Aaron Kixmueller, Shawn Talbert, Mikey Slates, Gene Davision and honorary pallbearers will be Heather Kixmueller, Christina Woodruff, Jennifer Talbert, Annie Akehurst, Cindy Akehurst, Kimberly Slates. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation, Thursday evening from 5 pm to 6 pm at the funeral home.
