Bob James

(From Parker Mortuary)

Robert Leroy “Bob” James, age 85, Joplin, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 at his home.

Bob was born October 30, 1936 in Seneca, Missouri, son of the late Robert Elias James and Juanita Pearl (Williams) James. He grew up in Seneca and graduated from Seneca High School. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served for over 21 years as a jet mechanic.

He retired from the Air Force as a T Sgt. before going to work for Eagle Picher in Joplin where he worked another 15 years, and then with Modine, worked on his farm, and was a Federal Security Officer for the local Social Security Office and later the Federal Courthouse before retiring.

He loved spending time with family, especially at the family get togethers. He was a member of the VFW, and loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed watching sports on television, especially NASCAR and Football, but his biggest thrill was to go see Air Shows, especially the ones at Joplin Regional Airport. He had a big heart, and loved his family, he will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wives, Martha James, and Elaine Davis James; brothers, Bill and Jerry James, and sisters, Betty Pogue and Donna Ogle.

Survivors include his children, Sheryl James of Joplin, and Robert James of Oronogo, Missouri; four grandchildren, Robert E. James of Joplin, Tina Maggard of Carl Junction, Tabatha McCully of Republic, Missouri, and Jodi Kunkle of Stricker, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Dennis and Ellisa Maggard both of Carl Junction; companion, Betty Smith of Joplin; sister, Carolyn Casey of Neosho, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
