George Greenlee

Mr. George Clifton Greenlee, 77, of Joplin, Mo departed this life on the afternoon of September 24th, 2022 after a sudden illness.

George entered this life on June 15, 1945, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a 1963 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School. 

On July 9, 1968, in Monroe, Louisiana, he was united in marriage to Sherrie Mitchell and to this union two children were born. They celebrated 53 years together just before Sherrie passed in August of 2020. They resided in Joplin, Missouri, since 1970. 








He was employed by MSSU where he was a professor for 45 years, retiring in 2015. In his time at the university, he guest taught some classes at several colleges around the country, including Oxford university in the U.K. 

George was very involved in soccer, coaching his son throughout his years growing up, including coaching him for a year at MSSU. He loved & collected antiques for many years, putting ads in local papers searching for his next treasure. After Sherrie passed, he took over the yard & the love of flowers, buying & planting so he could sit and enjoy the views.








George is preceded in death by his wife, Sherrie Greenlee. He is survived by his two children, Julie Neidholdt and husband Lonnie, of Joplin and Jeffrey Greenlee and his wife, Katherine, also of Joplin; four grandchildren, Trace and Grayson Neidholdt and Meagan & Andrew Greenlee; two brothers James Potter Greenlee of West Monroe, Louisiana & William Barlow Greenlee of West Monroe, Louisiana; as well as a host of other family & friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
