(From Clark Funeral Home)Vona "Maxine" Lawyer, age 82, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at Joplin Gardens Nursing Home.
She was born May 21, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Horace William and Laura Melissa (Dilger) Turner. Maxine was a lifelong area resident.
She graduated from Granby High School in 1958 and worked at La-Z-Boy Furniture Manufacturing Company in the upholstery department; from 1970-2005.
Maxine loved spending time with her grandchildren and family; she was an excellent cook, enjoyed scratch-off tickets, collecting hen and rooster salt and pepper shakers, collecting Norman Rockwell, and going to hootenannies.
On January 19, 2006, Maxine married James "Jim" Lawyer, and he survives. In addition, she is survived by three children, Bill Linton and his wife, Wendy of Stark City, Missouri, Ronnie Linton of Neosho, and Donnie Linton of Granby; two grandchildren, Eric Linton of Stella and Ryan Linton of Diamond; four siblings, Joe Turner and wife, Virginia of Neosho, Marilyn Loudermilk, and husband, Bob of Joplin, Clinton Turner, and wife, Barbara of Diamond and Kay Greninger and husband, Ed of Ritchey; two stepchildren, Larry Lawyer and his wife, Janet and Doug Lawyer, all of Joplin; and three step-grandchildren, Joe Lawyer, Jared Lawyer and wife, Sierra and Jessica Tupper and husband, Jarren and sister in law, Betty Turner.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles, infant brother Bobby and grandson, Matthew Lawyer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Granby, her son, Rev. Donnie Linton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Granby Memorial Cemetery, and serving as pallbearers will be Bill Linton, Ronnie Linton, Eric Linton, Ryan Linton, Larry Lawyer, and Doug Lawyer. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation Monday evening, September 26, 2022, from 5:30-7 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby.
