(From Parker Mortuary)William Louis Gilmore, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Joplin, on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the age of 72.
Born in Joplin on March 25, 1952, to the late Louis and Remona (Cox) Gilmore, Bill was a lifelong resident of the city he loved. Bill was a proud graduate of Memorial High School's Class of 1970, and then furthering his education at Missouri Southern State University. Bill was a dedicated employee of EaglePicher, retiring after 42 years of service.
Bill had a passion for the outdoors. He was a member of the Joplin Pistol and Rifle Club and often enjoyed hunting quail and deer. Fishing in the Cherokee County Sportsman's pits and at Bushwacker Lake were some of his most cherished pastimes.
His love for nature was only matched by his enthusiasm for the St. Louis Cardinals and was a fan through thick and thin. He loved his savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church of Joplin. Bill was a devoted son, brother, father, and uncle whose steadfast unwavering love for his family and friends will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his daughter, Alesha Hoy, of Joplin; his brother, Tony Gilmore, of Joplin; and several cousins. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Gloria Colbert.
Private family services will be held at Ozark Memorial Park with Pastor Charles Nelson officiating.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
