(From Meadors Funeral Home)

Martha Joan (Shaver) Baker age 84 of Billings, Missouri passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the Cornerstone Church of God, 609 South Street, Marionville, MO. 65709

Martha Joan (Shaver) Baker was born on July 5, 1940 in Neosho, MO. The daughter of Dewey Eugene Shaver and Nadine Marie (LeMasters) Shaver. Martha lived with several different families while attending school. She moved out to California and soon found work there. After some time there she moved back to Missouri. Martha married Lloyd Gene Baker on January 14, 1966. They were married 23 years before his passing.

Martha loved being a homemaker and enjoyed being in the kitchen doing what all goes on there. She was known for making homemade biscuits and gravy and her husband, Gene, was known to bring home friends to enjoy that hearty breakfast. Many of us benefited from her treats at Christmas time when she would be in high gear making goodies.

Martha spent her years working at various jobs, being a baby sitter, running a service station, working at the meat plant and her last employment being at Edco in Springfield doing microfilming.

Martha loved to travel and see new places. She enjoyed several years of attending Southern gospel music concerts and just enjoying the music. Her favorite being the McKamey’s. One cannot think of music without mentioning her Country music routes as well – Marty Robbins and Aaron Tippin. She loved to sing along and as she said “make a joyful noise."

As the years went by Martha enjoyed attending church and hearing God’s word preached from the pulpit along with that were “the good old hymns” that would draw her close to her savior. She wanted all her family to know the Lord on a “personal basis”.

Martha is survived by her daughter Cindy, Granddaughter Tana, Grandson Kyle, several great grandchildren along with a brother Dewey Shaver, Jr. (Sandra), sister Bernice McKenzie and sister in law/friend Sharon Churchill also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene Baker and her brother Bob Shaver.

“It is impossible to forget someone…who gave you so much to remember”
