Brent Allen Patton, 66, of Reeds, MO departed this life on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Brent entered this life on October 20, 1949 in Carthage, to the union of the late Halver and Della (Byler) Patton. He was a 1967 graduate of Carthage High School. On September 21, 1968 he was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Sullivan at Carthage. For more than twenty years he owned and operated a construction company. After his construction business, he was engaged in full time farming for twenty five years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Bird Hunters Association and Marble Association. Brent was a true sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and shooting muzzleloaders, trap and skeet shooting and hunting dog trials. He was a collector of marbles and arrowheads. Brent had a passion for antique cars and trucks. He also enjoyed music especially playing the guitar. On February 17, 1986 he took his first solo flight in a Piper PA-11 Super Cub. Brent loved life and lived it to the fullest, but his greatest love was his daughters and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law, Bill and Charlene Sullivan; and sister in law; Landra Sargent.
Brent is survived by his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Charla Bass and Shael Patton, both of Reeds; four grandchildren, Taylor Bass of Reeds, Dakota Thomas of Carthage, and Brooklynn Thomas and Haylee Thomas both of Reeds; one half-sister, Nola Lebo of Florida; two brothers in law, Bill Sullivan and wife Suzan of Riverton, and Johnny Sullivan and wife Debbie of Galesburg; several cousins, nephews and nieces; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Rose officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Mercy Hospice and be left at the funeral home.
