Susan Marie (Hill) Ritter, age 94 of Galena, passed away at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Joplin, MO at 7:41 PM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.

Susan was born in Hindsville, AR on March 9, 1922 to Sam Houston Hill and Ora Troutt. She grew up in Oklahoma, before settling in the area of Picher, OK and Treece, KS. She had lived in Galena for 62 years.

She worked as a housekeeper for several years, cleaning many homes for many people in Galena and the surrounding area until she was in her 80’s. She was a longtime member of the Galena Assembly of God, and she enjoyed reading her Bible while her eyesight would still allow it, as well as flower gardening, basic yardwork, and watching Mayberry RFD and Little House on the Prairie.

Susan was united in marriage with Thomas Ritter. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1996.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Tommy and Eddie Reavis; two brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include four sons, George Tillman (wife, Joyce) of El Centro, CA, Jerry Tillman (wife, Kathy) of Cobb, CA, Tony Reavis (wife, Linda) of Joplin, and Kenneth Shallenburger (wife, Amanda) of Diamond, MO; one daughter, Betty Pipper (husband, Jack) of Joplin; one brother, Harold Hill of Denver, CO; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena. Burial will follow at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 3-5:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Galena Assembly of God in care of the funeral home.
