Kenneth E. Smith, age 89, of Asbury, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his home following an illness.
Kenny was born February 6, 1927 in Asbury, Missouri to the late James and Lena (Michie) Smith.
He was a veteran of the WWII, serving in the United States Navy from May 1944 to June 1946. He graduated in 1944 from Carl Junction High School. He worked as a coal miner for P & M Coal and Clemons Coal, retiring in 1994. Kenny was a member of American Legion Post 13, Joplin, Missouri, Local 14 UMWA, Pittsburg, Kansas, and the Western Twirlers Square Dance Club, Joplin, Missouri. He was a Christian and attended Asbury Baptist Church.
Kenny married Betty Eppright on October 30, 1954 in Miami, Oklahoma, and she survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Cindy Smith, Joplin, Missouri, Kenda Fenix and husband, Bill Jr., Seneca, Missouri, Sherry Boyd, Asbury, Missouri, Brandy Crow and husband, James, Asbury, Missouri; six grandchildren, Brenna Mountford, Billy Fenix, III and wife, Chelsea, Tucker Fenix, Gus Mason, Quenton Crow and Mackenzie Crow; and three great-grandchildren, Phoenix Martin, Zeke Fenix and River Mountford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Debra Sue Smith, one brother, Wilfred Smith, and one sister, Virlene Long.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Mike Wilkins pastor officiating. Burial will follow at the Webb City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
