Dacota Briant Cortez, age 24, Webb City, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Freeman Hospital.
Dacota was born May 9, 1991 in Joplin and had lived in the Webb City area all of his life.
He was a graduate of Webb City High School in 2009, where he played for two state champion football teams; wrestled and played basketball. Dacota enjoyed riding horses in his free time and will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Melanie and Troy Gooch, Webb City; his father, Mike Wheeler, Joplin; siblings, Jasmine Wheeler, Joplin, Alex Gooch and Logan Gooch, both of Webb City; grandmother, Ruth Crockett, Joplin; and aunts and uncles, Charlene Cortez, Orlando, Linda Cortez, Joplin, Dawn Cortez, Fillmore, Utah, Terry Cortez, Arkansas, Cynthia Shriver, North Carolina and Elizabeth Cortez, Carthage.
Dacota was preceded in death by grandparents, Mick and Emma Cortez; and aunt and uncles, Erica Cortez, Richard Cortez and Shirrell Cortez.
A visitation is planned for Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Contributions can be made in his name at Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
