Bud Powers, age 77, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Monday April 4, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Bud was born on October 22, 1938 in Joplin, the son of the late Grover and Lena (Johnston) Powers. He has been a lifetime area resident. He married Lorene Simpson on July 24, 1959 in Joplin. Together they raised three children. He worked thirty years for W.R. Grace as the personnel manager. From 1989-2001 he owned and operated Powers Lawn Care.
He was a past member of the Fertilizer & Agriculture Chemical Association where he served on the executive committee. He also served on the National Safety Council. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Lorene Powers, Joplin; children and grandchildren, Debbie Kupish and husband Dave, Olathe, Ks., their children, Quinn Kupish, San Antonio, Tx. and Kelsey Kupish, Dallas, Tx.; Kristi Ball and husband Russell, Carterville, Mo., their children, Rylee Ball and Aaron Ball, of the home; and Craig Powers and wife Gail, Bentonville, Ar., their children, Eric Powers, Tampa, Fl. And Lauren Smith -Gilleran and husband Dale, Arkadelphia, Ar.; one brother, Gene Powers, Joplin; one sister Joan Ogden, Carthage, Mo. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Cecil and Bob Powers; and by one sister, Evelyn Ramsour.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Lew Poe and son-in-law Russell Ball will officiate. Burial will be in Saginaw Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to Hospice Compassus in care of the mortuary. The family requests that those attending dress in St. Louis Cardinal attire or wear red.
The family will receive friends 6-7 Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
