(From Derfelt Funeral Home)
Glenda Darlene Sills, age 55 of Joplin, passed away on April 5, 2016 at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman, Oklahoma.
Glenda was born on May 10, 1960 to the union of Otto W. Sills and Rose E. (Carver) Sills. She married Ross Graves in 1976, and they were married until the early 80’s. She later married Rick Emmons, and they were married until the early 90’s. She spent most of her adult life living in Roswell, New Mexico before returning to Joplin in 2005. She worked with various firms providing bookkeeping services up until October of 2015. She had been attending St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Joplin.
Glenda was a very selfless individual. She lived to please the people she cared about. Her passion revolved around her family, especially her grandkids. She would literally give you the shirt of her back. Every Sunday, she would cook a big Sunday Dinner for the whole family, even if she wasn’t expecting anyone, just in case they decided to stop by. She made foods that she didn’t much care for, such as brisket, apple pie, and bacon gravy, just because she knew that’s what everyone else wanted. She was very hospitable to those who came to stay with her, making special arrangements and accommodations to make their lives easier. She was a joy to all those who knew and loved her, and she will be dearly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Shane Brown. Survivors include her father; Otto W. Sills; her mother, Rose E. Brown; two daughters, Rhiannon Medley (husband, Wayne) of Galena, KS, and Jennifer Emmons of Joplin; one brother, Danny Sills of Norman, OK; two sisters, Kim Michael (husband, David) of Joplin, and Vickie Locke (husband, Tim) of Norman; two grandchildren, Brenton Moser and Kaiser Emmons; two step-grandchildren, Sarah Medley and Lilli Medley; 4 nieces and nephews, Brandon, Trevor, Baylie, and Cheyanne Locke; two step brothers, Michael Scribner and Eddie Scott; and one step-sister, Mecheal Hopkins.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Journey Church in Joplin. Pastor Rocky Tash will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brandon Locke, Trevor Locke, Tim Locke, David Michael, Rick Emmons, and Ross Graves, and honorary pallbearers will be Josh Hopkins and Michael Shawn Hopkins. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Galena, KS.
Visitation will take place Friday Evening from 6-7:00 PM at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
