Viola Mae Neece passed away Thursday June 4, 2020 at 3:43 p.m. at her home following a short illness.
Mae was born on November 2, 1938, the daughter of Harold and Ruby (Slaughter) Smith, in Seneca, Mo.
On August 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Wayne Neece. They have enjoyed 62 and a half years together, and have welcomed a son, Rodney Neece, into their family in 1968. Wayne passed away on February 3, 2019.
In 1974, she became the co-owner of William M. Stewart Engineering and renamed it Stewart and Neece Land Surveying, which is now under the ownership of her son Rodney Neece and his wife Lori Neece.
Mae was an avid Missouri Southern basketball fan and she has been a member of the Lionbackers since the early 70’s, she was also involved in the Fairview Antique auto club. Mae attended Oak Grove Baptist Church
She is survived by her son Rodney Neece and his wife Lori Neece, and two granddaughters, Shelbie Hunter and her husband Samuel, and Ragan Neece, all of Joplin. One great-granddaughter, Vivian Hunter. Her nephews, Tracy Smith, Tony Smith and Travis Smith, her niece, Tina Smith.
Funeral services under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary interment at Burkhardt Cemetery with the Reverend Johnnie Wilkins officiating at 2 pm, Tuesday, June 9th, 2020. The visitation will be on Monday, June 8th, 2019, from 6 pm-7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in care of the mortuary.
