Janice E. Meyer, age 86, of Monett, MO, passed from this life to her eternal home on Sunday evening, June 14, 2020, while at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Janice was born on July 19, 1933, in Atwood, KS, daughter of the late Adolf and Margaret (Frecks) Michel. The family moved to Fair Grove, MO in 1939 and then to the Freistatt area in 1946. She finished her 8th grade at Trinity Lutheran School and was confirmed a year later.
Janice graduated from Mt. Vernon High School class of 1951. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Dorcas Ladies Aid, the Friendship Club, Friends in Christ and the Freistatt Lions Club. She served as secretary for the Verona Road District for many years. Janice enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, church fellowship dinners and neighbors.
She was widely known for her cinnamon rolls and coconut crème pies. She also was active making crafts and volunteering at the school where she read to the children and spent time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved dearly.
On December 14, 1952, in Freistatt, MO, Janice Michel and Walter E. Moennig were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1976. On May 6, 1978 in Freistatt, MO, Janice Moennig married Arthur G. Meyer and he preceded her in death on December 29, 1996.
Janice is survived by her two sons, Bob Moennig (Dedra) and Roger Moennig (Reneè) all of Pierce City, MO; two daughters, Patricia Horn of Noblesville, IN and Shirley Doss of Monett, MO; nine grandchildren, Angela Templin (Thor), Danny Moennig (Jenny), Katrina McBlair (Kevin), Christopher Horn (Meghann Arnold), Geremy Doss (Amber), Mitch Moennig (Dakota), Stephanie Moennig (Devin), Natalie Moennig, and Matt Moennig (Jessica); sixteen great-grandchildren, Bentlie, Casten, Aethelred, Theodoric, Morgan, Mark, Madilyn, Molly, Adrian, Gabriel, Dane, Vansen, Emerie, Leightyn, Kordel and Karlea; special nieces and nephews, Michael and Brian, Tim and Xuan, Dawn and Todd and Nick and Lea Ann and families; one sister, Joan Farmer of Joplin, MO; one brother-in-law, Raymond Meyer (Betty) of CA; two sister-in-law, Darlene Caddell (Ronald) of Stott City, MO and Dorothy Helms (Charles) of Arnold, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son, Walter Moennig, Jr.; one son-in-law, Michael Horn; and one sister, Vera Broderick.
Funeral services for Mrs. Meyer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt with Reverend Jake Sletten officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity Lutheran School or Trinity Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home.
