G. W. Tompkins

Guy Walter “G.W.” Tompkins, 71, of Southwest City, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He began his journey on April 15, 1949 in Southwest City, Missouri to the late, Lawrence Edward and Amy Ethel (Haley) Tompkins. 

He was united in marriage to Karen Lynn Hobbs on May 18, 1973 at the United Methodist Church in Southwest City, Missouri. G.W. proudly served his country in the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a wonderful Election Judge; an avid mushroom hunter that also enjoyed fishing and farming. G.W. worked in security at Wal-Mart for over 20 years. He coached several softball teams in Southwest City. He ran a local donut shop “The Hole Affair” in Southwest City for many years with his wife and daughters. He was a member of the American Legion Post #553 in Southwest City, Missouri and a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Noel, Missouri. G.W. will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. 








He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Gelvin and a granddaughter, Tabitha Knight.

G.W. is survived by his wife, Karen Tompkins of the home; two daughters, Tobey King and Casey Stanley, both of Southwest City, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Caitlin Stanley, Matthew Knight, Hanna Stanley, Jacob Stanley, Ariel (Pilkerton) Stanley, James King, Liberty (Boer) King and Walter King; a great grandson, Castiel King and great granddaughter Willow Grace King; as well as a host of family, friends and neighbors who will dearly miss G.W.’s quick wit and kindness.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the Southwest City Senior Center, PO Box 252, Southwest City, MO 64863 or in care of the funeral home.
