Mike Waterman

Michael Wayne Waterman, age 57, Galena, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home with family at his side after a lengthy battle with diabetes.

Mike was born August 19, 1961 in Joplin, son of the late Billy Joe and Dorothy Price Shelton. He grew up in Joplin, and graduated from Memorial High School in 1979. He then earned his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Missouri Southern State University. He worked since age 14 playing in bands, and after college went to work as a Police Officer for Sarcoxie, and later Joplin. He eventually started his own security company, State Line Security, which he operated for years until his health forced him to retire.

Mike's passion throughout the years was music. He played for several local bands every weekend for years in the four state area. He was known throughout the four state area for his work in music. He will be greatly missed by all his family, and multitude of friends.








In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his grandfather, Mark Waterman, and a sister, Teresa Gourley.

Survivors include his sons, Greg Waterman (Michelle) of Galena, Aaron Waterman of Joplin; daughter, Courtney Waterman (James Moore) of Joplin; grandchildren, Malorie and Blaine, and step-grandchild, Chloe; brothers, Phil Waterman (Dottie) of Webb City, and Steve Shelton (Charlene) of Joplin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life for Mike was held on Saturday, June 13, 2020, and another celebration of life with be held at a later date with members of his old bands, and close friends playing, and remembering the fun times they enjoyed over the years.
