Anita Lacey-Smith

Anita Fay Lacey-Smith, 88, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020, in the comfort of her home.

Anita entered this life on January 25, 1932, in Joplin, one of three children born to the union of Fred and Juanita (Messenger) Deaver. She attended schools in Joplin. Anita was united in marriage to Jimmy Lacey and together they shared over 40 years together.

Anita worked as a private housekeeper here in Joplin for many years. She also worked as the bookkeeper for her and Jimmy’s family business. 








Anita was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and knew everything there was to know about their sporting history. She was also very meticulous and enjoyed working in her yard. Anita was a faithful member of Empire Mission Church in Galena, where she played the piano and organ. She was a wonderful sister and aunt and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Fred Deaver, Jr.; and her husband, Jimmy Lacey, in 2002.

Survivors include her brother, Ray Deaver, and wife, Lessialee, of Joplin; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena, Kansas, with Donna Maybee and Richard Nichols officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
