(From Parker Mortuary)Irene M. Peters, age 93, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
Irene was born October 12, 1928 in Henderson, Iowa, daughter of the late William T. Patterson and Oma (McKinney) Patterson. She moved to Joplin as a child and attended Joplin Schools.
She went to work for Meeker Leather Company in Joplin in 1946. While working at Meeker, she met her future husband Jack Peters. They were married October 12, 1946 on Irene’s 18th birthday. She retired from Meeker after 30 years of service.
Irene was a very active member of Fairview Baptist Church and was extremely proud of her longtime membership since 1954. She especially enjoyed helping with vacation bible school and other church functions. Being a dedicated prayer warrior was very important to her, making sure her part of the church prayer chain was complete.
Over the years Irene enjoyed game nights with family and friends. She was known to play to win but always had fun regardless of the outcome. She was known for her famous pies and cooking at family gatherings. She loved spending time with her family from her kids to her grandchildren and great-grandsons.
She was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack Peters, who passed away on July 2, 2002; a son Larry Peters; infant granddaughter Kerri Price; brothers Farrell Patterson and Robert Patterson and her sister, Kathleen Cupp.
Survivors include her children, Darrell Peters and wife Melva of Joplin, Carolyn “Susie” Peters of Joplin, and her daughter-in-law, Lois Peters of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Brice Peters and wife Noreen of Tulsa, OK, Christi Anguiano and husband Mike of Mansfield, TX, and Brian Price of Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren, Connor, Carson, Colin and Cooper Peters and Jacob, Ryan and Matthew Anguiano; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Josh Branham and Pastor John Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00- 7:00 pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Irene’s church, Fairview Baptist Church.
