(From Lockwood Funeral Chapel)Wayne Lee Gerry, of Mt. Vernon formerly of Lockwood, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO at the age of 90.
Wayne was born on January 22, 1931 to Hugh and Alma Gerry. He grew up in Lockwood, MO and graduated Lockwood High School in 1949.
It was there he met the love of his life, Marvelle Blackford, whom he married on November 7, 1951.
Wayne served his country as a Marine from 1952-1954. Upon honorable discharge as a Corporal he received The National Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
He spent his post military career as a barber after opening Wayne’s Barber Shop in his hometown and served the residents of Lockwood up to his full retirement in 2018. Wayne also enjoyed monthly trips to cut residents hair at the Good Shepard Nursing home in Lockwood.
Wayne was an active member at First Baptist Church in Lockwood, and served as Deacon for many years.
Wayne spent his final years in the care of the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO, where he touched the lives of all he encountered. He enjoyed the many activities offered, bingo being his favorite.
Wayne was preceded in death by Marvelle and leaves behind his son Richard and Daughter-in-law Lisa. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and their partners: Amanda Gerry & Brent Wilson, Sarah & Jerry Rawlings, and Preston & Kristy Gerry, Megan Smith, Haley Snook. He is also survived by great grandchildren Dylan & Colton Rawlings; Kylee, Oliver, Everlee, & Jac Gerry; and Kurtis Smith who will all grow up hearing great tales of Wayne and his amazing life!
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Lockwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. Services are under the care of Lockwood Funeral Chapel.
