(From Clark Funeral Home)Marilyn Janell VanSlyke, age 78, of Neosho, Missouri, passed away at 6:28 a.m. on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at her home. She was born April 1, 1943, in Powell, Missouri, the daughter of the late George “Morris” and Hazel (McGarrah) Lawson.
Marilyn lived in the Stella and Neosho communities her entire life. She graduated from Stella High School and was a member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church.
On May 13, 1961, she married Sanford VanSlyke at Crossroads Baptist Church in Stella, Missouri. He survives her of the home. Marilyn worked at J.C. Penney’s, worked as a custodian for Sweetwater Baptist Church, as a kitchen aide for the Stella School District, and volunteered for the Freeman Neosho Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, loved cooking and shopping.
Additional survivors include one son, Mark (Angela) VanSlyke, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; one daughter, Penny (Stan) Hayward of Fairview, Missouri; six grandchildren, Dakota (Felicia) VanSlyke, Brittany (Colton) Spencer, Madison (Brandon) Crain, Laney (Jeremme) Nute, Jaylen (fiancé Clayton Dunning) Hayward, and Zach (Kylie) Cate; five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Raygen, Bayleigh, and Lincoln VanSlyke, and Sadie Spencer; and one sister, Joan (Wade) Haines of Raymore, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at the Clark Funeral Home in Granby, Missouri, with Dr. Jerry Seigel and Pastor Paul Wahlert officiating. Burial will follow at the Macedonia Cemetery in Stella, Missouri. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
