John Booth

(From Clark Funeral Home)

John Edward Booth of Neosho, MO passed from this life on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO after a sudden illness. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

John was born in Woodward, OK on January 16, 1952, to Lee and Zelpha “Sally” Booth. The family moved to Neosho, MO when John was very young and he lived almost all his life there. John was a graduate of Neosho High School Class of 1970 and was a member of the Golf Club, Cecilian Choir, Choraleers, and was a standout athlete for the Neosho Wildcats football team.

He was awarded a full scholarship to play football for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks upon his high school graduation but a severe injury resulting from a car accident halted his football career and he instead joined the golf team as a walk-on at Crowder College in Neosho, MO, where he later earned an Associate degree.

John was married to Cheryl Ann Rinehart (Skaggs) on June 12, 1974, in Neosho, MO and his daughter Tori Leigh Booth was born from that union on February 18, 1978, in Joplin, MO. Tori survives her father.

John was married to Jenna Lea Masters on January 13, 2001, in Neosho, MO. Jenna passed away on September 26, 2018, also at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. John mourned her loss until his own passing.

John was a great lover of history, music, sports, and fun. He was highly intelligent and loved to chat with friends and give a strong opinion about almost anything. John was a history buff and could school you on many obscure facts. He was a gifted singer and loved to listen and sing to 50s, 60s, and 70s music and would often quote lyrics to his favorite classic songs. John was a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs and was elated when he got to see the Chiefs win the Super Bowl in 2020. He was an avid golfer almost all his life while his health permitted and was an accomplished bridge player. John worked a variety of positions over the years with several years each at Safeway and La-Z-Boy.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Zelpha “Sally” Booth; sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Vernon Brockman; great-nephew Unser Brockman, and his beloved wife Jenna Lea Booth.

John is survived by his daughter Tori Leigh Booth; stepson Dustin (Christie) Masters; stepdaughter Kelly Marie Masters Hazelwood; step-grandchildren Jett Martin, McKenzy Hazelwood, Brandi (Brandon) Buchanan and their son Brayden, and Christen (Dustin) Thomas and their son Caleb; sister-in-law Nadine (Larry) Vaughan; nephews David (Judy) Brockman and Roger (Thaney) Brockman, and great-nephews Andy Brockman and family, Riley Brockman and family, and Kinser Brockman. He also leaves behind Ron and Sylvia Wise who were his closest friends in his last years, as well as his much-loved cat Vivian.

Per John’s wishes, his remains have been cremated and will be interred next to his late wife Jenna. A service has not been immediately planned but will likely be scheduled at a later date. Any memorial contributions may be made to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates in support of his wife Jenna’s favorite charity or to the Neosho Senior Center where John spent a lot of time playing bridge and socializing.

John always loved a good time so if you are an old friend please feel free to share a fun memory of him.
