Bill Mattler

William Michael Mattler, Sr., age 74, of Bentonville, passed away Sunday September 1, 2024, in Springdale. He was born May 2, 1950, in Venice, California, the son of Louis Claude and Jacquelyn Ellis (Ward) Mattler. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served as a helicopter crew chief in the 114th Aviation Company during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he held various jobs, including climbing remote mountains as a high-altitude petroleum surveyor and working as a certified Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic, before finding a career in industrial maintenance.








An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a musician who would play guitar and sing with his band, The Old Town String Band, performing a repertoire that ranged from classic rock to bluegrass and traditional country.

In his later years, Bill dedicated himself to serving the Gravette, AR community. He volunteered tirelessly, contributing through civic roles like the City Planning Commission, as well as charitable work with the local Lions Club and American Legion chapter. Bill was a mentor and steadfast friend to many in the community.

He is survived by his six children; William “Bill” Mattler, Jr., of Bentonville, AR, Laura Harris, of Pineville, MO, Richard Mireles of Bentonville, AR, Kimberly Hillam of Bella Vista, AR, Christopher Mattler of Gravette, AR and Jackie Harpole of Centerton, AR.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 14, 2024, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Rogers.
