Mildred Imogene Lawson, 92, passed away on August 27, 2024, at Westgate at Wildwood Ranch in Joplin MO. Mildred was born February 24, 1932, at Stella, MO the daughter of Steve and Millie (Pogue) Dabbs. She graduated Stella High School.
She married Ottie Lawson on January 17, 1953, in Neosho MO. He preceded her in death in December 2016.
Mildred, better known by friends and loved ones as Imogene, was a public-school teacher for 53 years. She was a graduate from Pitt State, Pittsburg, KS. She taught at three schools, starting her career at a one room schoolhouse with all grades in Stella. At Mindenmines, third and fourth grades and retiring from the fourth grade at Pleasant Valley, Carthage School System. Students from her first teaching days at Minden still remember and love her, honoring her at school reunions. Over her years of teaching, she made many friends that will miss her.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Ann Carnes, Carthage MO and two great grandsons, Connor and Coltyn Carnes, Granby MO

Besides her husband Ottie, she was proceeded in death by her parents, her grandson, Jeffrey A Carnes. One brother, Curtis Dabbs and three sisters, Jewel Brooks, Nadine Surridge and Louise Privett.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Midland Cremation Society of Joplin. A Memorial Service will be announced later.
