Jimmy Russell

Jimmy Iven Russell, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Jay, Oklahoma, on Thursday evening, May 22, 2025, at the age of 80. He entered this life on February 12, 1945, in Stella, Missouri, born to the union of the late Ivan Richard and Ethel (Harvey) Russell.

Jimmy was raised in the rural setting of McDonald County, Missouri. After his formative years, he answered the call of duty and served his country with honor as a member of the United States Marine Corps.








Following his military service, Jimmy embarked on a career as a truck driver, a job that suited his independent spirit and love for the open road. Outside of work, Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman. He found solace and excitement in fishing and coon hunting, activities that allowed him to immerse himself in the natural beauty of the world around him.

He is survived by his nine children, Ivan Russell, Alan Russell, Ethel Kingfisher, Austin Russell, William Russell, Wilma Russell, Walter Russell, Jesse Russell and Shadow Russell; nine grandchildren, Keisha Roberton, Kobey Russell, Ty Russell, Dillon Chandler, Rowdy Chandler, Hayden Girty, Jennie Girty, Bryce Girty and Austin R. Russell; four great grandchildren, Jaylen Robertson, Pheonix Robertson, Remmington Russell and Michael Russell; four siblings, Charlene, Cathy, Patsy, Carolyn and Michael; as well as a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., in Jay, Oklahoma.

Glen Garrett

Glen Garrett, age 93, passed away peacefully in his home on May 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. Glen, son of John and Sara (Caudle) Garrett, was born on July 6, 1931, in Butterfield. 

He was a man of great faith and had been saved and baptized at an early age. Glen and his brother grew up helping their father in his machine shop in Butterfield and he was a graduate of the 1949 class of Butterfield High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran having entered the service in 1951 and serving in Germany. He was a lifelong resident of Barry County, having resided in Butterfield, and Purdy, and was a Hereford cattle rancher. 








Glen was instrumental in several businesses, including but not limited to, Garrett Manufacturing in Cassville, which was initially intended to be the satellite location for Caterpillar; Tri-State Motor Transit Co. in Joplin; five locations of the First State Bank; and the Oak Star Banks in Southwest Missouri. 

Glen served on many boards throughout his life including the Purdy School Board which was very important to him, and the Barry County Industrial Board; was a member of the Monett Chamber of Commerce; and attended the First United Methodist Church in Monett. He was involved with the building of the Cassville and Monett Library and the First United Methodist Church in Monett; helped with the beautification and revitalization of Monett; and was involved in the Drury College Building Fund in Monett. Glen received the Missourian of the Year award in 2009. 

He was an avid follower of all sports including the Kansas City Chiefs and the sports programs of the Purdy School District. In his later life, the Terry family was very important to him.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean “Jeanne” (Terry) Garrett; two sons, Filip Garrett and his wife Debbie, of Springfield, and John Garrett and his wife Vicki of South Port, South Carolina; two daughters, Sara Garrett of Springfield, and Ida Garrett of Springfield; three step-sons, Scott Seitz of Kansas City, Jeff Scott and his wife Jessica of Purdy, and Rick Scott and his wife Lisa of Purdy; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.








In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Garrett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31st at Arnhart Baptist Church in Purdy with Cliff Crockett officiating, burial to follow at Arnhart Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home and Crematory.

Memorials may be made to the Glen Garrett Scholarship Fund at the Purdy School District.

Arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.

Bill Granger

Billy Van “Bill” Granger, age 73, of Purdy, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at his home.

He was born August 17, 1951 in Stella, Missouri the son of Dick and Wanda (Blevins) Granger. On November 16, 1984 in Miami, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Linda Flaxbeard, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Kevin Granger of Purdy, Missouri; two daughters, Kathy Farmer of Fairview, Missouri and Michelle Farmer of Fairview, Missouri; two sisters, Scherry Divine and her husband Darrell of Stella, Missouri and Tammy Wecker and her husband Gerald of Pierce City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Leslie, Christopher, and Matthew and seven great grandchildren.








Preceding him in death were his parents and four brothers, Danny Granger, Ricky Granger, Benny Granger, and Richard Granger.

Bill grew up in the Stella area and attended school at East Newton graduating from East Newton High School. For 40 years, he managed his dairy, poultry houses, and beef cattle operations. Bill enjoyed riding horses, attending classic car shows and his dogs, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.








Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 30, 2025 at Macedonia Cemetery in Stella, Missouri under direction of McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Lee Beck will conduct the services.

Contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in memory of Bill.

Barbara Ford

Barbara Lorraine Ford, of Joplin died at home on Sunday evening, May 25, 2025, just a few weeks after her 99th birthday. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Graveside Services will be held at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with pastor Jim Bowles officiating.

Barbara was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1942, at the young age of sixteen, she married Jessy Ford. They moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Joplin, Missouri and purchased their first and only home in 1947. She was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and passersby often slowed to enjoy the wide array of floral beauty. She liked sharing her plants with neighbors and friends. She was a seamstress who made most of her young daughters’ dresses and doll clothes and a caregiver to several family members thru the years.








At the age of 49 she earned her GED and subsequently worked for the City of Joplin in the Municipal Court Dept. for thirteen years. The Joplin Tornado of 2011 caused extensive damage to their home, as well as demolishing trees and flowers which she had nurtured so diligently. She spent the following year feverishly trying to replenish those losses. By God’s grace the home was repairable, and the plants were renewed; even the new trees she planted have matured in her lifetime.

She is survived by three daughters, Regina Albritton, Diana Johnson (Thomas), and Frieda Adams; grandchildren, Pamela Albritton, Scott E. Albritton, Bradley Johnson (Cherith), Katie Brechlin (Jake), Gina Harper (Ian), and Kristin Youngbull (J. Tyler); sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.








She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 76 years, Jessy Evert Ford; father, Orville O. Hunt; mother, Edith M. Campbell; sister, Darlene Lonon; brother, DeWayne Hunt; and her aunt, Ina Friedhofen (Uncle Bill). The Lord provided a way for Barbara to reside at home even after she experienced physical setbacks. She lived and loved for 99 years, and now has joined her loved ones in eternity, for which both she and her family are thanking and praising our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.

Bud Anderson

William ‘Bud’ Harley Anderson, age 60 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 following a short illness. Bud was born April 1, 1965 in Neosho, Missouri to Robert L. Anderson and Eva Irene (Denny) Smith.

Bud graduated from Joplin High School in 1983 and enlisted into the United States Army. After honorably discharge, Bud went to work for different companies including several years at AmeriCold in Carthage and for the last few years, Bud has worked for General Mills in Joplin. Bud was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hike, camp and go biking, even being featured in different magazines. He was a wonderful son, brother and friend to everyone who knew him.






Bud was preceded in death by his father, Robert Anderson.

Those left to mourn his loss include his mother, Irene Smith of Carl Junction; sister, Lori Wilson (Charles) of Belleville, IL and a niece, Whitney Robinson (Sunny) of Belleville, IL.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri. No services are planned at this time.

Ruth Logan

Ruth Logan (Williams), age 75, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on the morning of May 26, 2025, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.

Born on September 6, 1949, in Lawton, Kansas, Ruth was the daughter of Charles and Erma Williams, she grew up alongside her three siblings. A self -proclaimed Daddy’s girl she inherited a love of secondhand sales and watching car racing from Charlie. She shared a love of garage sales and thrift stores with her mother Erma, she could spot a garage sale sign from a mile away. She enjoyed reading and word puzzles. A weather watcher she would share the weather forecast and current temperatures with you every time you talked. 






She enjoyed classic TV like Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith and watching wrestling. Ruth insisted on taking snap shots of her family and friends and having family get togethers to share a meal.

She worked for many years in dietary for various area care facilities, her most recent being Spring River Christian Village which she retired from in 2016.

Preceding her in death are her parents Charles and Erma Williams, one brother Larry Williams, and one sister Delores Hodge.








She married Preston Logan on Dec 14, 1968, she is survived by their children Shawnda Doerr of Neosho, Missouri, Becky Vandergrift of Anderson, Missouri, Emma Belle of Joplin, Missouri, Preston Logan of Baxter Springs, Kansas. She had a special place in her heart for Rick Young of Joplin, Missouri and her dog Buddy. She is survived also by one brother Verle Alumbaugh, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many more extended family members and friends who will miss her.

A Graveside service has been scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, May 30 at Waco Cemetery in Waco, Missouri. The family will receive friends and visitors from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Thursday, May 29 at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin.

Frances Maggard

Frances Maggard, 89 years of age. born October 27, 1935, in Greeley Colorado to Walter and Ethel Kendrick, went home to Jesus on May 25, 2025, in Rogers, Ar. She was a loving mom, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

She was a spirited woman, who was very independent. Frances will be remembered for her spunky nature and love for her family. She loved to make and sell crafts. Over the years she has excelled in sewing and crochet also plastic canvas. Earlier in her life she had a career as a CNA, she loved helping elderly people. Frances was a hard worker her entire life. She loved socializing with others.








Frances is survived by her son Justin and wife Tammy of Joplin, Mo, Jesse and his wife Julie of Rogers, AR, Grand children are Shawn Shields and wife Mandi, of Fayetteville, AR, Tiffany Button, Missouri. Great grandchildren Dakota Shields, Justin Hall, Zachary Shields and wife Alison, Joe Shields, Alison Hall, Logan Hall, Amelia Shields and Jason Shields all from Arkansas. Great Great Grandchildren, are Sebastian Shields, Estella Shields, Rogers, AR, Morgan wright, Chanley Wright, Timbur Papacoda, Mariah Beal, of Missouri, Payton Hall, River Hall and Damien Hall of Fayetteville, Alora and Emberlynn of Rogers.

She was preceded in death by Her son Douglas Shields, her husband Joe Maggard of Reeds, MO in 1999, former husband Joe Shields, Her Grandson Jason Shields, Grandson Josh Wright.
