Shirley Ellis

Shirley A. Ellis, 69, Carthage, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO.  Shirley Ann Ellis was born May 20, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of the late June Teague.  She attended Carl Junction High School and later graduated from Joplin High School, Class of 1964.  Shirley married Robert W. Ellis on January 3, 1965 in Columbus, Kansas; he survives.  She worked for the Carthage Walmart at the Service Desk for several years.  She loved taking care and going places with her grandchildren.

Additional survivors include; a daughter, Cherylon (Mark) Winningham, Carthage; three sons; Robert (Pam) Ellis, Oak Hills, California, Scott (Robyn) Ellis and William Ellis, all of Carthage; one sister, Pat Janacek, Woodlands, Texas and two sister-in-laws, Helen Owen and Margaret Russell, both of Joplin; one brother-in-law, James Ellis, Excelsor Springs, MO; seven grandchildren, Cody Ellis, Carthage, Michael, Christopher and Halie Ellis, Oak Hills, CA, Ryan McInerney, Carthage, Sean McInerney, Hawaii and Tyler Winningham, Carthage; one great granddaughter, Emily Ellis, Oak Hill, CA.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Minister David Cook will officiate.  Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.   1. Shirley used to watch me on KOAM TV and when I'd see her at WalMart she always had something silly to say and ask about my kiddos. I was sad to see she had retired since I always looked for her at WalMart. And more saddened now. Shirley was more than a bright spot in my day. She was a light. Thinking of you all...
