Dick Day

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Richard 'Dick' Reno Day was born January 24, 1933, in Appleton, Minnesota, one of four children to Everett and Hazel (Risch) Day. Dick made his way to Heaven on September 10, 2022, after a bout with pneumonia and other complications at the age of 89. He was met at Heaven's gate by his son, Jimmy, his parents, his brother Donald, and the mother of his children, Elisa.

Dick worked in the dairy industry from childhood through retirement.

After graduating high school in 1951, Dick served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he received his master's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1963. He then had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to teach dairy technology in South America.

While there, he met and married Elisa (Marinho), a beautiful and talented Brazilian lady, on July 19, 1965. They were blessed with three children, Susan, Jimmy, and Sandra. They returned to the United States in 1971 where he began a career with Milnot Co. in Warsaw, Indiana. In 1977, the family moved to Neosho on Thanksgiving Day for Dick to continue with Milnot Co. in Seneca, Missouri as plant manager where he worked until retiring in 1995. Because their son Jimmy had Down Syndrome, the family lived in Neosho to allow special training for him. Jimmy preceded him in death in 1985 and Elisa in 1994.

As his daughters grew older, Dick met and married Judy (Nichols) on November 16, 1996, in Neosho, and she survives. In addition to Judy, Dick is survived by their combined family, Susan Elledge (Curtis Thomas) of Neosho; Sandra Crane (Chris) of Neosho; their children, Ben Elledge (Tori Blair), Hayden Crane, and Daysen Crane and was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great-grandson Everett James Elledge; Brett Day (Chrissy) of Neosho; Blake Day (Teri) of Kansas City, Missouri, and their children, Bailee Day, Michael Day and Abby Day; two sisters, Veneta Anderson of Shakopee, Minnesota and Helen Vulu of St. Paul, Minnesota, and sister-in-law, Virginia Day of Nevis, Minnesota.

Dick was a wonderful Dad, Papa, and husband who loved attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals and choir performances. He enjoyed golf, yard work, flowers, and drives with his wife Judy. He loved his Minnesota Vikings.

Dick had a servant's heart and supported his community by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, Food Basket Brigade, Neosho Bright Futures, Newton County Cancer Council, and Neosho Exchange Club, where he was also honored with the Book of Golden Deeds Award in 2000. Dick was a member of the Neosho United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Neosho United Methodist Men.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 16, 2022, at 10 am at the Neosho United Methodist Church; Rev. Mitch Jarvis will officiate. Ben Elledge, Hayden Crane, Michael Day, Chris Crane, Brett Day, Blake Day, and Curtis Thomas will honor him by serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Werries, Ken Kendall, and Lewis Cole. Interment will follow in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation Thursday evening at the Clark Funeral Home, 5:30 to 7 pm. Contributions in memory of Dick may be made to Neosho United Methodist Church or Neosho Bright Futures program, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, Missouri 64850.
