(From Mason-Woodard Funeral Home)Megan LyAnn Pierce was born on April 10, 1986 in Springfield, MO. She passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2023 at the age of 37. She grew up in Rocky Comfort, MO with her parents and siblings.
Megan graduated from McDonald County High School in 2004. She attended Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, Virginia and Northwest Arkansas Community College in Rogers, Arkansas. She lived in Arkansas, Virginia, and Missouri during her adult life.
Her professional experience included working as a service representative in the banking industry, as an account manager at Moser Corporation, and most recently as a logistics and truck route coordinator at TMC Transportation in Joplin, MO.
Megan had a few nicknames growing up but our favorite was “nutmeg.” She was our funny, loving, and spicy little girl. She didn’t really mind her nickname until she got older, but we loved it because it was so descriptive of her. Megan thought it was about her being a “nut” – not something she wanted to be “known as.” Who knew she was going to become an amazing cook and with such a spicy attitude. She loved spending time in the kitchen. She was well known for her jalapeno dip specifically, but also for showing up to a gathering with something delicious and unusual. We always knew to expect her to be late to any gathering while bringing with her a new recipe in her most fashionable heels.
We love her big, infectious laughter and her giving heart. She was a poet, quilt maker, gardener and voracious reader. She enjoyed softball, volleyball, concerts, glamping, and seeking adventures in her free time.

Megan is preceded in death by her brother, Derrick Hay, and other close family members. Megan is survived by her mom, Dr. Deborah Eads and husband, Gaylen; her dad, Christopher Hay; her sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Chris Risenhoover; her brother and fiancé, Alan Hay and Anna Deckard; and sister, Laurie Burgess and husband Michael; as well as a niece, nephews, many aunts and uncles, cousins, and other family members.
A visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on September 16, 2023 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory at 3701 East 7th St. Joplin, MO.
