Maria Leger

Maria Annette Leger born November 18th, 1963 in Joplin to Mary Lee Johnson and Donald Barber and passed away in her home on September 15th, 2023.

Maria graduated from Memorial High School in Joplin. She was the first black cheerleader in Joplin. She was a caretaker for most of her life, caring for others was her life passion.

She met O'Ray in the summer of 1983 and they married on June 10th 1994.

 

She was proceeded in death by her parents, grandmother Katie Mae Johnson great-grandmother Atha Brown, brothers Gary Johnson, Raymond Barker and Stephen Blunt, sisters Marilyn Johnson and Donna Washington.

She is survived by her husband O'Ray Leger; her siblings, Kathy Britt, Joseph Johnson, Charles Johnson; her children, Reginald Johnson, Maria Johnson, Janesha Leger, Leger Jr., Oran Leger, and Schrietta Henson; grandchildren, Gaibrielle Johnson, Diamond Henson, Ramon Johnson, Genesis Grice, Laikin Showalter, Amoni Grice, Layla Showalter, and Ja'Ria Adkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care of Parker Mortuary.
