(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Joe Ross Brown, 78, passed away at his home Friday afternoon in Carthage, Missouri. Born October 16,1944, to Ross Bedford Brown Jr. and Helen Hilda “Krummel” Brown, Joe was a lifelong resident of Carthage.
Joe graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1968 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He entered the U.S. Army, assigned to the Signal Corps 504th Division, and served at DaNang and other outposts in Vietnam as a radio teletype operator.
After discharge, Joe returned to Carthage where he joined Motor Rentals, Inc., as bookkeeper. He had a ham radio operator’s license and enjoyed sending and receiving messages to and from far-away places. Joe was also active in church affairs, serving for many years as Financial Secretary at Faith Lutheran Church in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Beth Campbell of Carthage; one niece, Cathy Johns; and one nephew, Bryan Campbell.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M Wednesday September 20, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening September 19, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will be in Sarcoxie Cemetery in Sarcoxie, Missouri, immediately following the service.
