Alice Hammond

Alice Hammond, age 74, Carthage, Missouri passed away Thursday September 7, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

She was born August 19, 1949 in Carthage, Missouri to Hyrl “Bill” and Wanda (Howard) Lown.

Alice was a stay-at-home mom which was important to her, so she was always there for her daughters. She later worked part-time as the secretary at Duenweg Christian Church for 31 years, while also babysitting her four grandchildren spaced through-out all those years. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, flowers, her “girls” (chickens), and her favorite game, Phase 10.

She married George V. Hammond Jr., on June 17, 1967 and he survives. Alice is also survived by two daughters, Cynthia Sprague and husband Harley, Sara Neal and husband Ted; one brother Hyrl Lown and wife Janice; four grandchildren, Jessica Holly and husband Jonah, Bryce Sprague, Andrew Williams, Leland Williams, and one great grandchild, Emerson Holly, and one brother in-law, Carlos Richards. She had a great number of extended family, and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Juanita Richards.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday September 18, 2023 at the Diamond Grove Christian Church with Pastor Bob Heath officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday September 17, 2023 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
