(From Parker Mortuary)Ronald Wayne ‘Ron’ Murray, age 66 of Galena, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital in Joplin on Friday, September 8, 2023 following an extended illness.
Ron was born February 5, 1957 in Joplin, Missouri to Bob and Willa (Willis) Murray. He grew up in the Galena, Kansas area and attended school with the class of 1975.
Ron attended University of Oklahoma where he first got a degree in Petroleum Engineering. However, during that time the oil industry begin to crash and jobs weren’t readily available so he received his second degree in Mechanical Engineering. It was with that degree, that Ron started working with Toshiba in Houston, Texas and did an extensive amount of global traveling. He later retired from General Electric in Burlington, Iowa after 15 years.

Ron loved to take out on his Harley and travel the roads, driving thousands of miles on his bike over the years enjoying the scenery and time spent with his best friend, Bill Fenix. He was a member of the Riverton Boat and Ski Club where he enjoyed many stories and laughs together with his many friends.
Ron is preceded in death by his father, Bob Murray and his only son, Jeromy Murray.

Surviving Ron include his mother, Willa Murray of Joplin; grandchildren, Alan Murray of Joplin, Olivia Horn and husband, Don of Galena; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Josoyn Horn; brothers, Randy Murray and wife, Sheila of Galena and Mike Murray of Joplin; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
The family will be hosting a Celebration Gathering on Sunday, September 24th at 3:00 p.m. at the Riverton Boat and Ski Club where all are welcome to come and share stories.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
