(From Parker Mortuary)Erma L. Putnam, age 94, lifelong resident of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 with family at her side.
Erma was born February 5, 1929 in Joplin, daughter of the late Albert C. Greer and Alma O. (Athay) Greer. She attended Joplin Schools and worked at several jobs over the years including working for the Connor Hotel, Meeker’s Leather, Holiday Inn, and Robert’s Cafeteria before devoting her time to taking care of her family.
She later in life worked for years as a housekeeper for different individuals in the Joplin area. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was a member of the Tennessee Prairie Church of Galena.
Erma was a very gracious lady who was a mom to a lot of people. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, arts and crafts, taking care of her large family and living life in general. She will be greatly missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wayne Putnam, Jr.; a daughter, Cherry Ferreira; a grandson, Matt Putnam; brother, Ray Greer and a sister, Ruby Stone.
Survivors include her children, Steve Putnam, Jim Putnam (Norma), Judy Walton (Denny), Linda Miller, Sandy Gates (Mitch Hodge); 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, James Ferreira; sister, June Severns (Jerry) all of Joplin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Tennessee Prairie Church with David Hunt and family officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery with Travis Peppers, Steve Putnam Jr., Nick Putnam, Mike Miranda, Steve Putnam the 3rd, and Lucas Stapp serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
