Carla June Culver of Wyandotte, OK passed from this life Thursday, September 28, 2023 at her home. She was 81.

Carla was born July 11, 1942 in Wyandotte, OK to Rev. Carl and Gladys (Wright) Powell. She had lived in the Wyandotte area most of her life. She graduated from Fairland High School class of 1960. She received her Associate’s Degree from N.E.O. A&M College in Miami, OK and her Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, MO. 

She worked for Wyandotte Nation and was the Director of Education. Carla was a member of Sycamore Chapel Methodist Church in Wyandotte, OK. She was a avid OU fan, a huge final four college basketball fan and enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Glenn Powell and 1 sister, Teddy Erlene Plemmons.

Survivors include 1 son, David Culver of Tulsa, OK, 1 daughter, Carol Thurman of Wyandotte, OK, 1 sister, Shirley Shockey of Granby, MO and 2 grandchildren, Austin Winkler and Joseph Thurman.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2023 at Sycamore Chapel Methodist Church, southeast of Wyandotte, OK. Rev. Jon Bates and Rev. Geoff Buffalo will officiate and David Culver will deliver the eulogy. Native American Rites will be conducted by David Culver and Larry Hamilton. David Culver, Austin Winkler, Joseph Thurman, Dan Boyd, Sam McGarrah and Chris Gwartney will serve as pallbearers. Men of Sycamore Chapel Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will be in Wyandotte Cemetery in Wyandotte, OK. Carla will lie in state at Wyandotte Cultural Center in Wyandotte, OK beginning Sunday at 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday.
