Betty Beason

(From Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home)

Betty Louise Beason, age 89, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, departed this world on November 13, 2023, and began a better life in Heaven with her Savior and friends and loved ones who are waiting for her there.

She was born on September 11, 1934, in Sarcoxie, Missouri to George and Genevieve (Price) Preston. She spent most of her younger years growing up in the Stockton, Missouri area. Betty was saved and baptized into the El Dorado Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending until her declining health made it too difficult.

Betty married Leonard (Junior) Beason in 1965. He preceded her in death in 2010 after nearly 45 years together.

Betty retired from Thriftway Grocery Stores in Belton and Grandview after working there for 37 years. She then worked at the Mid-Am Cheese store in El Dorado Springs until it closed. Her last job was as a hostess at Scooters Restaurant in El Dorado for Jack and Donna Ellis. She really enjoyed her time there meeting and making many friends.

After her husband’s death Betty and her friend and neighbor, Carl Webb, became “running buddies.” They enjoyed travelling and going out to eat together. During this time, she became close to Carl’s family, Brenda and DJ Ford and their daughters Emily and Amy. Later, when Carl became ill, he stayed with Betty, and she became his caregiver until he passed in 2021.

One of Betty’s passions throughout her life was horses and horseback riding. She and Leonard attended the Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence, Missouri for many years. They were trail bosses there for 13 years and made countless friends from all across the country. Betty never met a stranger and was always showing the “newbies” the ropes. In later years she also took up bowling and participated in several leagues. This and hanging out at the coffee shops allowed her to make even more friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, her husband Leonard, her companion Carl, and her step-daughters Kauna and Shauna. She is survived by grandchildren Angi, Autumn, and Kade, great and great-great grandchildren, and Shauna’s husband Owen Elliot. She is also survived by her adopted families DJ and Brenda Ford and their daughters Emily and Amy, and also her caregivers for the last few years Robert and Karen Spencer and their children and families.

A huge part of Betty’s legacy is the long list of friends she made over the years, both those living and those gone on before. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Betty pre-wrote much of her obituary and it included this request for all of us: “Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all.” I will remember Betty just as she was on our many trail rides together, with a big smile on her face and always talking to someone. I know she is on her favorite horse Red on a big trail ride in the sky and I intend to ride with her once again some day. Ride high Miss Betty!
