Betty Kennedy

Betty Jean Kennedy, Oronogo, MO, passed away on November 18, 2023, in Mt. Vernon, Mo. She was born in Joplin, Mo., on March 30, 1934, to the late Carl Annis, Sr. and Ruby (Hubbard) Annis.

Betty spent her formative years in Duenweg, Mo and Oronogo, Mo. On May 15, 1952, she married the love of her life, Lynn F. Kennedy, and together they built a beautiful family. Betty's strength and love were the foundation upon which her family thrived.








Betty was a dedicated worker, spending many years at Fred's Frozen Food before her well-deserved retirement. Her commitment to her work was a testament to her strong work ethic and her belief in the importance of contributing to her community. Despite her professional commitments, Betty always prioritized her family. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren.

Betty had a deep love for the outdoors. She found joy in gardening. Camping trips were a favorite family pastime, creating memories filled with laughter and love. An avid fan of John Wayne movies, Betty's love for the iconic actor was well-known among her family and friends. Her strong faith was evident in her active involvement in her church, where she served with humility and grace.

A great cook, Betty's kitchen was the heart of her home. She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and loved, and her meals were a testament to her nurturing spirit. Yet, it was her children who were the most important thing to her. Betty was a loving, strong woman who instilled these values in her children, shaping them into the individuals they are today.

Betty is survived by her children; Darlene Kingsley of Mt. Vernon, MO, Linda Wilson of Miller, MO., and Deanna Haller (Darrel) of Forsythe, MO; grandmother to Wade Simmons, Jeremy Wilson, Jason Wilson, Cassandra Ethridge, and Darrel Haller, Jr.; and sister, Rosemary Summers. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn F. Kennedy; son, Billy Lynn Kennedy; grandchild, James Simmons, and her brother, Carl Annis, Jr.








Betty Jean Kennedy's life was a testament to the power of love, strength, and dedication. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we remember Betty, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. The family invites friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 5:00 pm. – 7:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
