Anita Jones

In loving memory of our mother, Anita Jones, who passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in Carthage, Missouri. Anita passed away peacefully at home.

Anita was born in Rochelle, Illinois to Lloyd and Wanda (Hamilton) Clements on February 28, 1949. She went to Doniphan High School and graduated in 1967. She went on to Cosmetology School and graduated from there in 1968. 

Anita was a cross guard for the City of Carthage for over 40 years at various locations and schools. Anita loved being a cross guard and watching all the children grow up. She threw newspapers for the Carthage Press for over 3 years. She mowed yards throughout the city of Carthage for over 30 years. She was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right; values that we will continue to carry with us. Our mother and grandmother was a true role model who we have always looked up to.

In 1971, she married Carroll Jones and together they went on to have three children.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Hall, and Rachel Jones (Terry); grandchildren, Jessica (George) Ott, Jerrica Grissom (Josh), Demi Jones, Devin Jones, Kelcey Schlichting (Alex), Kaiden Hunt (Katerina), Allyssa Schlechting; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Allen (Wayne), and her grandpup, Bella.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Wanda Clements; her ex-husband Carroll Jones; her son, Max Jones; her sisters, Dorris Gere and Kathy Clements; her brother, Larry Clements; and her grandpup, Maggie.

The family of Anita wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the nurses and doctors at the Mercy Cancer Center in Joplin, all the staff at Phoenix Hospice and Home Health, and all the friends and family that have helped care for her over the last 3 years.

A funeral service will be held for Anita at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home. A visitation will be held the previous evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Her burial will take place at Fullerton Cemetery immediately following the service. A reception will be held in the Ulmer Funeral Home Community Room following the burial.
