Velma Brown

Velma A. Brown, aged 94, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away at Freeman West in Joplin on November 9, 2023. 

Born on November 19, 1928, in rural Jasper County, Missouri, Velma lived a remarkable life characterized by resilience, dedication, and love for her community. She was a beloved wife, mother, and friend to many. Velma was widowed, having been married to the late Forrest Brown, with whom she shared many beautiful years until his passing on October 1, 1990.







Velma devoted a significant portion of her life to the Webb City R7 School District as a cook. She spent nearly five decades at Eugene Field School, where her culinary talents brought joy to many students and staff. Velma retired in 1993, having left an indelible mark on the school community. 

Beyond her work, she was also a member of the Eastern Star, where she gathered with friends and shared in mutual support and fellowship. She also regularly attended the Webb City Senior Center, where she enjoyed time with her friends.








Velma is survived by her children, Joan (Brent) Charlton, Lee (Jeanine) Brown, and Jay (Donna) Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Vena McDaniel, her husband, Forrest Brown, and her children, Irene and Mack Brown.

A graveside service will be held at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 10am with Chaplain Kyle Beverlin officiating.


Funeral services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home of Webb City.
