Bessie Allene Jones, an amazing woman, 88 of Jasper, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Joplin Mercy Hospital. She was born August 14, 1935 in Barton County Missouri to Thomas B. Taffner and Florence A. (Keltner) Taffner.
Bessie retired in 2019 after 55 years as owner/operator of Judy’s Cafe and Truck Stop in Jasper, Mo. Her love for the business began when she worked there while attending Jasper High School. Bessie operated the 24/7 business with a smile, making everyone feel welcome.
Three generations of multiple families worked for Bessie. Her friendliness and generosity did not stop with the business. Bessie was very involved in community and school activities. She enjoyed helping others. Everybody loved her.
Bessie and former spouse, Mack A. Carter had 3 children Kay Carter of Jasper Mo., Dale Carter of Lamar, Mo. and Doug Carter of Diamond, Mo.
On July 25, 1970 Bessie married Carl J. Jones (deceased) and had a blended family with his children Carolyn Dye, Debbie Nelson, Ronnie Jones, Carl Joe Jones, Carla Kay Scheiber and Bobby Jones.
Later, Bessie and Carl had the pleasure to raise granddaughters Jenica Carter-Rush of Frisco, Tx. and Jessica Carter of Jasper, Mo.
Bessie loved her grandchildren and adored her ever increasing number of great grandchildren.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Jones, her parents, one brother and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1 PM at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, Mo. The family will receive friends Friday, November 24, 2023 from 6 PM to 7 PM at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, Mo. Burial will be in Waters Cemetary. Reception to follow at Grand Event Center, Jasper, Mo.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bessie Carter Jones scholarship fund in care of the funeral home to benefit a Jasper basketball player.
