Bobby George "Bob" Hamlin,. age 77, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Bob was born April 17, 1937 in Joplin, son of the late William "Willie" Hamlin and Lorna Keith Hamlin. He attended Joplin schools, and began his career as a truck driver at the age of 23 driving for C.E. Reynolds. He drove for several companies throughout his career, and retired in 1999 after the last 20 years with Roadway Trucking. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and Empire Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Copher Hamlin who died on December 28, 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Erselene "Ersie" Mapes Hamlin whom he married May 8, 2010 in Joplin; son, Rob Hamlin and wife Marian of Neosho, Missouri; daughters, Cheryl Fussell of Joplin, Betty L. Mitchell and husband Dick of Stockton, California, and Synthia "Cindy" Wilbur and husband Jim of Sandy, Oregon; step-daughters, Angela Hebner of Pittsburg, Kansas, Susan Rickey and husband Mack of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brothers, Barry Hamlin of and wife Mary of Carl Junction, Jack Hamlin and wife Sandy of Deer Park, Texas; sister, Betty Stribling and husband Steve of Coral Springs, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Bro. Pat Jeffers officiating. Private interment of his ashes will be at a later date in Forest Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
