Richard Donald (Dick) Johnson, age 84 of Joplin, passed away at 8:55 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 8, 1930 in Stratton, Maine, he was the son of the late Donald U. and Clara Savage Johnson. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Dick retired as a Customer Engineer for Burroughs Corp. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 1000. An avid golfer, he was a member of Joplin Golf Club at Schifferdecker Park. He also enjoyed going to Las Vegas and Downstream Casino.
On May 10, 1975 he married Evelyn Marie Carlock. She preceded him in death on September 6th of this year. Two brothers also preceded him in death, Harold F. Johnson and Howard F. Johnson.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Jenkins of Bolingbrook, IL, Carol Avery of Springfield, MO; a special niece, Rebecca Hodson of Joplin; four grandsons, Nathaniel Jenkins of Bolingbrook, Garry Avery and Randy Jay of Springfield, MO, Steven Jay of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Mikayla and Chase Jenkins and Ben Avery; a niece, Jane Ellen Tilton and sister-in-law, Lucille Johnson, both of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
