Thelma Huff Jones, 83, Carthage, passed away Tuesday, October 07, 2014 at the Spring River Christian Village in Joplin, MO. Thelma Ilene Schmidt was born on June 16, 1931 in Marion, Ohio to Frederick Schmidt and M. Ruth Merwine. She was a graduate of Prospect High School, Prospect, Ohio, Class of 1949. Thelma came to Carthage in 1966. She worked in the admitting department of McCune-Brooks Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 1994. On May 25, 1996 she married Bob Jones in Carthage. She will be greatly missed by many.
Survivors include her husband; Bob Jones, Carthage, six sons; Steve Huff, (wife Brenda), Downers Grove, IL, Ralph Huff, (wife Diane), Lee Summit, MO, Matt Huff, Carthage, MO, W. Bruce Huff, Colorado Springs, CO, Richard Huff, (wife Marcie), Carthage, MO, D. Kent Huff, (wife Jennifer), Greensboro, NC, one daughter in law, Margee Huff, Nashville, TN, one sister; Opal Clutter, Marion, OH, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Frederick Schmidt and M. Ruth Merwine, one son; Chris Huff, and a brother; D.F. Schmidt.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, October 9, 2014 from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday Morning, October 10, 2014 at 10:00 AM also in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Rev. John Davidson, First Baptist Church, Carthage, will officiate. Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Interment will follow at Curtis Cemetery, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
