Teresa (Teri) Loree Byrd, age 55 of Duenweg, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at her home surrounded by family following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Teresa was born September 2, 1959 to the late Maxie and Lela Schriber Thomas in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Missouri Southern State University with her teaching degree and then continued her education receiving her Master's degree at Pittsburg State University. She was a great educator, teaching science for many years at North Middle School in Joplin. Teresa was a faithful member of Forest Park Baptist Church where she was actively involved in Mission Joplin after the 2011 tornado.
She is survived by her best friend, Steve Byrd whom she married on June 12, 1981 in Webb City, Missouri.
Additional survivors include one son Taylor Byrd; daughter, Jennifer Branch (Ryan) all of Joplin; brothers, Tim Thomas of Columbus, Kansas, Troy Thomas and Todd Thomas both of Garland, Texas; sisters, Tracey Thomas of Baxter Springs, Kansas and Tricia Harrison (Rodney) of Sachse, Texas; many extended family and dear friends that will miss Teresa greatly.
Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Freeman Cancer Center or Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
