Gary Sponsel

The Lord called Gary Lee Sponsel, 65, Carthage, home Friday evening, September 26, 2014, at Mercy McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage after a sudden illness. Gary was born on October 19, 1948 in Goodland, KS to Lee Sponsel and Lorraine (Havelina) Sponsel. He graduated high school in Pleasanton, CA. After high school he attended Chabot College, Hayward, CA where he earned his Associate Degree. Gary worked as a real estate agent in Castro Valley, CA for many years. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves at Fort Ord, CA.

Gary is survived by his father; Lee Sponsel, Carthage, two children; Brandi Lacey, (husband Gabriel), Sparks, NV, and Brian Sponsel, California, three brothers; Jeffery Sponsel, (wife Becky), Carthage, MO, Neil Sponsel, (wife Darlene), California, Patrick Sponsel, (wife Jamie), Pittsburg, KS, and his beloved granddaughter Kayla.  Gary is preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Sponsel and one brother, Darrel Sponsel.

Gary loved his family and spent his time in Carthage riding motorcycles with his father and his time in Sparks with his daughter and granddaughter doing daddy chores and getting Starbucks for all!  He will be missed by all of his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30AM, Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 S. Cherokee Street, Frontenac, KS 66763. Inurnment will take place at later date in California. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 S.
